Press Release, 6/20/19: The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous reports recently about possible phone scams targeting registered sex offenders. This phone scam involves suspects calling registered sex offenders in the area and informing them that they owe money for being out of compliance with their registration requirements.
The suspects making the call are falsely representing themselves as being employees of the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office and demanding payment.
Upon calling the number back victims are directed through a phone recording which states that the number belongs to the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office.
The Tehama County Sheriff’s Office is circulating this message to inform the public of this scam. If you don’t recognize a phone number, consider letting it go to voicemail.
