As we get closer to another fire season, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office would like to inform the public of upcoming tests of the ALERT FM system in Shasta County. ALERT FM is a device that receives mass notifications via FM radio signals in times of crisis or emergency.
Starting this Thursday, May 4, at 7:30 pm, ALERT FM will conduct a short test of the system by sending a message to those who have a device. Additional tests will occur every Thursday evening throughout the month of May, also at 7:30 pm. Following the tests, any technical issues should be referred to ALERT FM by calling (866) 869-5180.
The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office would also like to let the public know that there are still a limited number of ALERT FM devices available at no cost to qualifying members of the public. This opportunity is intended to provide these devices to those who meet at least one of the following criteria:
- Age 60 years of age or older
- Those with a Disabling Medical Condition
- Those who live in areas at risk for Public Safety Power Shut Offs
- Those with no or limited internet and cell phone service
- Other (including limited income)
Those who qualify will sign an attestation to that effect and a hold harmless agreement.
Those who feel they can more easily afford to purchase a device on their own are encouraged to do so to allow access for all.Devices can be picked up at the following locations:
- The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office City of Shasta Lake Station, 4488 Red Bluff Street, Shasta Lake, CA during regular public operating hours.
- The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office Burney Station, 20509 Shasta Street, Burney, CA during regular public operating hours.
- By appointment through the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services location by calling (530) 245-6000.
